RCMP on scene of collision Highway 36 North of Taber, Alberta – UPDATED

Taber, Alberta Shortly after 6:40 am on Friday, August 10th, 2018, Taber/Vauxhall RCMP members along with MD of Taber Fire Department, Community Peace Officers and EMS attended to the scene of a two vehicle collision on Highway 36 approximately 6 kilometres north of Taber, Alberta.

An SUV was travelling northbound on Highway 36 when it collided with a pick up truck travelling southbound on Highway 36.

The male driver of the southbound pick up truck was initially airlifted from the scene by HALO due to life threatening injuries but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased en route to hospital. The driver of the SUV was transported to hospital in Lethbridge with serious injuries.

Highway 36 has since reopened.

A collision analyst attended the scene. All contributing factors into this collision are being considered and the investigation is ongoing.

BACKGROUND

Taber, Alberta – Taber/Vauxhall RCMP members are currently on scene of a two vehicle collision on Highway 36 between Township Roads 102 and 104 north of Taber, Alberta. That section of Highway 36 has been closed and traffic is currently being diverted around the scene as the investigation continues. This closure is expected to last for several hours.

The collision occurred at approximately 6:40 am on August 10th, 2018 between a northbound SUV and a southbound SUV each containing only one occupant. One of the drivers is to be airlifted from the scene due to serious injuries.

A collision analyst will be attending the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
