Vermilion, Alberta – Two people have died following a collision on Highway 16. Initial investigation has found that shortly before 2:00 A.M., two passenger vehicles were involved in a collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 16 near Innisfree. The two vehicles involved in the initial collision were then struck by an eastbound semi tractor trailer.
The drivers and lone occupants of the passenger vehicles were confirmed deceased on scene. The driver of the semi truck was uninjured.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing. Details with respect to the gender, age, and home towns of the deceased individuals will not be released until next of kin has been notified. These efforts are currently underway.
Traffic in the area of the collision remains disrupted while efforts to clear the highway are made. The highway is expected to be open to through traffic within the next hour.
Vermilion, Alberta – Shortly before 1:00 A.M. on September 15, RCMP and emergency crews responded to a serious multi-vehicle collision on Highway 16. The collision occurred one kilometre east of Innisfree and involves a semi truck and two passenger vehicles.
The highway is currently impassable to eastbound traffic. Motorists are being rerouted on Secondary Highway 870. This detour is expected to be in place for several hours while the investigation takes place.
