Abbotsford Officers pepper-sprayed during foot pursuit; prolific offender Robert ORR remains in custody

Abbotsford, BC – Robert Dean ORR, 34 years old, has been remanded in custody for assaulting a police officer with a weapon and breaching a court order.

January 11, 2018 at 2:30 am, Abbotsford Police Patrol Officers attempted to stop a male pedestrian for jaywalking in front of their vehicle. As police approached him, he fled and sprayed officers in the face using a large canister of capsaicin (aka “pepper spray”) as they pursued him. Despite the debilitating effects of the pepper spray, the officers apprehended this combative male and transported him to APD cells. The male, now identified as Robert Dean ORR, had two outstanding warrants for breaching his court order.

Both officers were treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

Mr. ORR has an extensive criminal history, consisting of 50 criminal convictions, including 16 convictions for property offences. Mr. ORR remains in custody on his outstanding charges and new charges of breaching his court order and assaulting a police officer with a weapon. He will make his next appearance in court at the end of January.
