UPDATE: Semi Collision on Highway 2 Claims Life of Red Deer Male, Traffic Flow Returns to Normal

Lacombe, Alberta – At approximately 4:00 p.m., Innisfail and Ponoka Traffic services responded to a collision on Highway 2 near Lacombe involving two semi trucks.

An unoccupied semi with two empty enclosed trailers was stationary on the side of Highway 2 waiting for repairs when another semi heading southbound collided with the back of the rear trailer. Emergency triangles were in place at the time of the collision.

The 58-year-old male driver from Red Deer in the southbound semi was pronounced deceased at the scene. No one else was injured. Southbound traffic was diverted for several hours during the investigation.

Innisfail and Ponoka traffic services along with an RCMP Collision analyst from Red Deer continue to investigate all factors contributing to this collision.

Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this time. The name of the deceased will not be released.

Traffic on Highway 2 near Lacombe is no longer being diverted.
