CRTF Members assist in the rescue of a family of 5 boaters

Cornwall, Ontario – On Sunday, July 22nd, Cpl. Yves Labbé and Cst. Fanning were involved in the rescue of five (5) boaters after a Mayday call was broadcast on the marine radio.

The sailboat’s outboard engine had broken down, causing it to drift uncontrollably through rough waters during a period of strong rain and winds. Members deployed the RCMP boat and headed towards the reported location on the St-Lawrence Seaway.
They located the sailboat which was in great danger of capsizing. The family members, including 3 children, boarded the Police boat and were taken to safety in Cornwall Ontario.

The Akwesasne Fire Department and the Canadian Coast Guard provided assistance by towing the stranded boat to shore.
