Gypsumville RCMP respond to a presumed drowning in Fairford, Manitoba

Fairford, Manitoba – On October 30, 2018, at approximately 7:15 pm, Gypsumville RCMP responded to a report that a 22-year-old male from Pinaymootang First Nation had fallen off the old train bridge in Fairford. The bridge is known to local residents as the “black bridge,” and it crosses the Fairford River.

The male was with friends when he fell into the water, but they lost sight of him. It was dark at the time of the incident, and the currents were strong.

A search was conducted yesterday by RCMP, the local fire department, and community volunteers, but the male was not located.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident.

The search is continuing today.
