Update on drug search of north end Nanaimo property

Nanaimo, BC – The Nanaimo RCMP Drug Unit have completed their drug search on a Metral Drive residence. On Thursday November 2nd a Criminal Code search warrant was authorized to search secondary buildings on the property for stolen property.

The investigation was jump started when at approximately 8:45 PM on Wednesday October 31st Drug Unit officers saw a pick up truck with two males inside leaving the property. A check of the license plate found it to be stolen. A short time later, the vehicle was stopped near Alsop Road and the two male occupants were arrested and taken into custody without incident.

A search of the truck found street level amounts of opioids, cocaine and methamphetamine. Along with the drugs, a packsack was searched and found inside was an unloaded 22 calibre handgun and a magazine. The 34-year-old male driver was held in custody while his 37-year-old male passenger was arrested on several outstanding warrants and later released.

The driver, Joel Kelly Millette, remains in custody and was later charged with 13 counts of drug and firearm related charges. With respect to the search of the Metral Drive home, the two females arrested, ages 35 and 41 were arrested and face drug related charges. The search of the home located a quantity of illegal drugs suspected of being opioids, cocaine and methamphetamine.
