RCMP Onion Lake: Man from Onion Lake deceased

Onion Lake, Saskatchewan – On December 1, 2018, the RCMP Onion Lake Detachment received a complaint of an assault which occurred in Onion Lake Cree Nation and began an investigation. During the investigation, officers identified a suspect.

On December 3, the suspect was located in Onion Lake Cree Nation sitting in a vehicle. Officers observed he was holding a firearm. While they were engaging with the individual, the suspect discharged his firearm and was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was declared deceased on the scene. The officers did not discharge their firearms during this incident. The individual was a 43-year-old man from Onion Lake Cree Nation.

As per the RCMP Act and RCMP policy, this matter is being investigated by the RCMP with an Investigational Observer assigned by the Province of Saskatchewan. This decision was made in consultation with the Province.
