RCMP stop vehicle fleeing from police, two men arrested

Painsec, New Brunswick – Two men from Riverview, N.B., have been arrested and are facing various charges after allegedly committing an attempted robbery and home invasion in Nova Scotia and fleeing from police into New Brunswick.

On December 4, 2018, at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Southeast District RCMP responded to a request for assistance from the Nova Scotia RCMP to stop a vehicle travelling westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The two men inside the vehicle were alleged to have committed an attempted robbery and home invasion in Springhill, N.S., shortly before 5 p.m. and had fled from police.

A spike belt was deployed along the highway near Exit 467 B, in Painsec, N.B. The vehicle came to a stop near the next exit and the two suspects fled on foot. The New Brunswick RCMP’s Police Dog Services were deployed and located the two men a short time later. They were arrested and taken to hospital for minor injuries. They were later released into police custody.

A member of the New Brunswick RCMP was also injured while responding to the call, and was treated in hospital and later released.

A 42-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, both from Riverview, are scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on December 5, 2018 at 1:30 p.m., to face charges related to the incident. They are also expected to face charges in Nova Scotia related to the attempted armed robbery.

The investigation is ongoing by both the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia RCMP.
