RCMP arrest opioid drug trafficker

Toronto, Ontario – On November 29th, 2018 the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Serious and Organized Crime (SOC) Team in Toronto arrested three people for trafficking drugs and operating on the dark web.

The online vendor offered to sell several types of illegal drugs on the dark web portion of the internet. Offered for sale was synthetic heroin (fentanyl), cocaine, Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methamphetamine, and ketamine to customers in Canada and around the world. The vendor is believed to have been responsible for hundreds of illegal drug transactions.

The arrested include operators of the dark web vendor and couriers they used to facilitate these illegal activities. As a result of the investigation, the RCMP executed two search warrants and have seized various quantities of drugs believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and MDMA. Other items seized were:

  • Two assault style rifles
  • Ten handguns
  • Hundreds of ammunition rounds
  • Pill press
  • Computers and materials required to operate this illegal business

As a result of this investigation two subjects from the Toronto area have been charged. The investigation is ongoing.

Darius Jankaitis, 23 years of age, from Toronto has been charged with:

  • Trafficking of a Controlled Substance X 6, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance, contrary to the CDSA
  • Several firearms related offences including carless/unsafe storage of a firearm & ammunition, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Unlawful possession of a restricted weapon, contrary to the CCC
  • Unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon, contrary to the CCC

Marko Shkinly, 23 years of age, from Mississauga is charged with:

  • Trafficking of a Controlled Substance X 6, contrary to the CDSA
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance, contrary to the CDSA
  • Operate a motor vehicle while disqualified, contrary to the CCC

The third person who was arrested was a female, 22 years of age, from Toronto. She was released on a promise to appear. Her first court date is set for January 9th, 2019.
