Stolen vehicle crashes near Makinsons, RCMP seek assistance

Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador – This morning, at approximately 7:20 a.m., Bay Roberts RCMP received a report that a pickup truck had been stolen from a residence sometime overnight. At approximately 8:20 a.m., officers received a complaint of a single-vehicle collision in Makinsons. A pickup truck crashed into a light pole and knocked it down in the roadway.

While police were on the way to the scene, they learned that the driver had departed in the damaged truck.

Police located the truck a few kilometers away from the crash scene. There was a small fire burning inside the cab of the truck. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and were able to supress the fire.

There were no occupants inside. The vehicle was determined to be the stolen pickup that was reported to police earlier today.

RCMP Police Dog Services attended the scene to conduct a search for the driver.

The investigation is continuing and police are looking to identify this man in relation to this incident.
