Airdrie RCMP respond to incident involving a firearm

Airdrie. Alberta – On December 5, 2018 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Airdrie RCMP responded to a firearms complaint in the Prairie Springs area of Airdrie, Alta.

A male called to report that he had been in a consensual fight. After the fight he was confronted by a second male who was holding what appeared to be a handgun. He quickly left the area but prior to driving away the male from the fight smashed the back window of the car he was in with a baton.

RCMP attended the location where the suspects were believed to be and safely took both suspects into custody after effecting a high risk arrest. The alleged firearm was not located at the time.

After further investigation, RCMP obtained a search warrant for the residence of the suspect. During the search they located a baton and a Smith and Wesson BB gun with copper pellets.

One male is charged with:

  • Mischief under $5000
  • Fail to comply with an undertaking

The second male is charged with 6 offences, including:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Weapons possession contrary to court order

Both males, who cannot be named as they are Young Offenders, will be appearing in Airdrie Provincial Court.
