Grande Prairie RCMP Officer Involved Shooting *Update*

Grande Prairie, Alberta – On Tuesday December 4, 2018, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Grande Prairie RCMP encountered a vehicle near 140 Avenue and 99 Street in Grande Prairie. During the encounter, a confrontation occurred between the occupants of the vehicle and RCMP members that resulted in the serious injury of the driver of the vehicle, and in the direction that Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) investigate the circumstances surrounding that confrontation.

ASIRT has conduct of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the serious injury of the occupant of the vehicle. RCMP maintain conduct of the investigation into the criminal behaviour of the two occupants of the vehicle. In relation to their involvement in the incident Tuesday, the two occupants have been charged as follows:

Raymond Andrew RODTKA (21) of Grande Prairie, Alberta is facing the following charges;

  • Attempted murder x 2.
  • Careless use of a firearm.
  • Pointing a firearm x 2.
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
  • Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
  • Discharging a firearm with intent x 2.
  • Flight from a peace officer.
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Assault with a weapon.
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00.
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00.
  • Mischief Over $5,000.00.

Kevin Daniel TURNER (30) of Grande Prairie, Alberta is facing the following charges;

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

The two individuals remain in custody until they appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on December 7, 2018.

The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding police conduct.

Grande Prairie RCMP – Officer-involved Shooting

Grande Prairie, Alta. – At approximately 4 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, Grande Prairie RCMP members attempted to stop a stolen vehicle. A confrontation occurred between two suspects and the officers which resulted in the discharge of a police weapon.

One suspect was injured and is being treated for injuries at a medical facility.

No officers were hurt and there was no concern for public safety at any point.

The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding police conduct. The RCMP remains the lead investigating agency on the events leading up to the serious incident, with ASIRT having carriage of the review of police actions.

Grande Prairie RCMP -Investigate Police Incident

Grande Prairie, Alberta – In the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 4, 2018, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to an incident near 132 Avenue and 100 Street.

Police remain on scene and continue to investigate the situation. The access road on 99 Street near 132 Avenue is blocked as police continue to investigate. Please choose an alternate route and stay away from the area.

There are no concerns for public safety at this time.

An update will be provided once more information becomes available.
