Cochrane RCMP have a busy start to the New Year; RCMP Recover 3 Stolen Vehicles and Arrest 6 People

Cochrane, Alberta – Over the past 4 days the Cochrane RCMP have recovered 3 stolen vehicles, and arrested 6 individuals in relation to these recovered stolen vehicles.

On January 7, 2019 the Cochrane RCMP were advised that a vehicle, with Onstar, was stolen from Canmore. With the assistance of Onstar, the Cochrane RCMP were able to locate and recover the stolen vehicle, abandoned in rural Cochrane. The RCMP police dog services assisted and arrested two of the suspects nearby. Malik Holloway (20) of Morley was charged with one count of being in Possession of Stolen Property over $5000, plus additional charges. Holloway is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Court on January 15, 2019. Stephawn Hunter (22) of Morley was charged with one count of being in Possession of Property under $5000 plus one additional charge. Hunter is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Court on January 29, 2019.

On January 8, 2019 the Cochrane RCMP were advised of an erratic driver entering the Cochrane area. A query of the license plate of the vehicle driving erratically revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Calgary. The Cochrane RCMP located this stolen vehicle, abandoned in rural Cochrane alongside a second vehicle that had also been reported stolen out of Calgary. With the assistance of RCMP police dog services a male was arrested a short distance away. Dennis Wildman (39) of Morley was charged with being in Possession of Property Stolen Property over $5000 plus additional charges. Wildman is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Court on January 29, 2019. Richard Hunter (46) of Morley was charged with being in Possession of Stolen Property over $5000 plus additional charges. Hunter is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Court on January 22, 2019.

On January 9, 2019 during the early morning hours the Cochrane RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Cochrane where the homeowner had been bear sprayed. Upon arrival it was determined that the homeowner had interrupted 2 individuals trying to steal his vehicle. The homeowner sustained a minor injury that did not require hospital attendance. With the assistance of the RCMP police dog services two males were located nearby and arrested. Lyle Bearspaw (25) of Morley was charged with Robbery and numerous other charges. Bearspaw is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Court on January 14, 2019. Jacob Wesley (18) of Morley was charged with Robbery and with numerous other charges. Wesley is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Court on January 14, 2019.

With the assistance of new technologies, initiatives and analysis tools, our dedicated crime reduction team is able to focus on the few offenders who commit most of the crime and to target crime hot spots in a given community.
