Winnipeg Carjacking: Armed Male Demands Keys

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On January 9, 2019, at approximately 7:05 p.m., Winnipeg Police received a report of a disturbance in a lane of the 700 block of Ross Avenue. The caller advised that a repairman had been working at this location and was concerned for his wellbeing. A second call was received from the victim who advised that he was working on a telephone line at this location when he was approached by a male armed with a handgun who demanded his keys. After a brief struggle, the male suspect, and a second male fled in the victim’s vehicle.

At approximately 7:25 p.m., members of the Tactical Support Team observed the stolen vehicle being operated in the area of Selkirk Avenue and McGregor Street. They followed the vehicle to the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue where it was stopped without incident. Two males were removed from the vehicle and taken into custody. One male was in possession of a replicated handgun which was seized. Prior to being apprehended the stolen vehicle was involved in a minor hit and run accident in the area of Isabel Street and Ross Avenue.

It was learned that the same males were responsible for pointing a firearm at a driver earlier in the evening in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Toronto Street. A short time later, the males approached a 14-year-old male in the 800 block of Winnipeg Avenue. One of the suspects pointed a firearm at the victim and robbed him of his backpack and personal belongings before fleeing the area.

None of the victims reported any injuries.

Anthony Ray DANIELS, a 23-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm X2
  • Pointing a Firearm X3
  • Fail to Exchange Particulars
  • Drive Without a Licence or With Invalid Licence

A 15-year-old male of Winnipeg has also been charged with:

  • Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm X2
  • Pointing a Firearm X2

Both males have been detained in custody.
