Yellowknife woman charged for false fire alarm

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories – On Sunday, January 20th, 2019, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Yellowknife RCMP received a call of a fire alarm at an apartment building downtown. Officers responded to the call along with the City of Yellowknife Fire Division. An investigation determined that it was a false fire alarm.

RCMP have charged 29-year-old Carlena Mantla with 1 count of Section 437 CC – False Alarm of Fire.

Mantla has been released on a Promise to Appear in court Tuesday, February 26th, 2019.

Over the past few months, RCMP and the City of Yellowknife Fire Division have responded to multiple false fire alarms in residential units throughout the city.

RCMP wish to inform the public that false fire alarm calls are taken seriously and when improperly used, they occupy valuable resources that could be used elsewhere in the event of an actual emergency.

RCMP remind residents to treat fire alarms seriously and to only use them in the event of a real emergency.
