EAD RCRU and Elk Point RCMP track stolen vehicle leading to arrests

Elk Point, Alberta – On Tuesday March 5, 2019, the Bonnyville RCMP received a report that two welding trucks had been stolen from a local business in the Bonnyville area. GPS tracking equipment attached to the vehicles led members of the Elk Point RCMP and the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit to a rural property in the Elk Point area where a search warrant was executed.

Two males were located and arrested at the scene and an assortment of stolen vehicles and property were located and recovered. The second stolen welding truck was also recovered later that day by Edmonton Police Services in Edmonton. No additional charges have been laid in relation to the second welding truck at this time.

Leslie Alan Hillebrand (41) of Elk Point was charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 x6 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000. Hillebrand was held for a bail hearing where he was released by a Justice of the Peace on a $2000 no cash Recognizance with conditions. Hillebrand is scheduled to attend St. Paul Provincial Court on March 28, 2019. The second male suspect was not charged at the time in relation to this incident. The investigation is still ongoing.
