RCMP lay passport fraud charges

Milton, Ontario – Toronto West Detachment (TWD) of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) recently charged a Barrie, Ontario resident with offences related to the Criminal Code of Canada.

On January 11, 2018 the RCMP TWD initiated an investigation based on a referral received from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada into the fraudulent attempt to procure a Canadian Passport by Douglas Southcott. Subsequent investigation revealed that Southcott had also obtained various pieces of identification in fraudulent names including driver’s licenses and health cards issued by the Province of Ontario, and had committed an act of Fraud over $5000.00 using these pieces of identification.

As a result of the investigation, Southcott (62 years of age) is charged with:

Two (2) counts of making a false statement to procure a passport, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).

One (1) count of fraud over $5000, contrary to the CCC.

Nine (9) counts of use of forged documents, contrary to the CCC.

Three (3) counts of identity fraud, contrary to the CCC.

Douglas Southcott will be appearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie, on April 1st, 2019.
