St. Paul RCMP and Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Team recover stolen vehicle

Saddle Lake, Alberta – On April 9, 2019, members of the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit were conducting patrols in St Paul County, when a vehicle matching the general description of a truck reported stolen earlier that morning was spotted. A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle fled at high speed and a pursuit was not continued for public safety reasons.

EADRCRU and the St Paul RCMP continued the investigation and spotted the vehicle that had fled earlier, parked in St Brides. The vehicle fled upon being confronted by EADRCRU, nearly striking a police vehicle. RCMP members were able to determine where the truck had gone and subsequently surrounded a residence in Saddle Lake where the vehicle was located and its occupants were arrested.

The truck was determined to be stolen from Lloydminster.

Aleigha Omeasoo (23) of Saddle Lake was charged with multiple offences, including:

• Flight from police (X2)

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (X2)

• Resisting a peace officer

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

• Failing to comply with a recognizance (X2)

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

She was also arrested for her outstanding warrants, which included charges of:

• Failing to attend court (X3)

• Failing to comply with a youth sentence order (X3)

• Obstructing a peace officer

• Failing to comply with a recognizance (X6)

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

• Assault causing bodily harm

• Theft of a truck

• Failing to remain at the scene of an accident

• Failing to attend for identification purposes

She was held in custody following a bail hearing and had her first appearance via CCTV in court in St Paul and Mayerthorpe on April 11, 2019.

A 21-year-old male from Lac La Biche and a 22-year-old female from Saddle Lake are being charged in relation to this incident, but were released pending court dates.

As this matter is before the courts, no further information will be provided.
