Alberta RCMP member charged after investigation

Edmonton, AlbertaCst. Dorian Tooze, of the Stony Plain, Alta. RCMP, has been charged following a police investigation.

On Oct 24, 2018, members of the Stony Plain RCMP were in pursuit of a stolen work vehicle where they successfully deployed a tire deflation device. A short time later, the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to negotiate a turn. The driver exited the vehicle on the road and was taken into custody and handcuffed.

Through the course of the members restraining the driver, it is alleged that Cst. Tooze used excessive force.

After a statutory investigation was completed by a neighbouring detachment, Cst. Tooze has been charged with one count of assault. There is no change to Cst. Tooze’s duty status.

Cst. Tooze first appearance in Stony Plain provincial court is May 1, 2019.
