NT RCMP Federal Investigations Unit make substantial cocaine seizure

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories – The Northwest Territories RCMP Federal Investigations Unit (FIU) arrested and charged a man for possession of cocaine.

On May 9, 2019, police officers from the FUI arrested a 30-year-old man in the parking lot of a local business. The arrest was a result of an investigation which started in December 2018.

A search warrant was simultaneously executed on the man’s apartment in the Range Lake area of Yellowknife. Over 2900 pre-packaged baggies of crack cocaine, an additional 157 grams of cocaine, and approximately $1600 cash was also seized.

“We are pleased to remove these drugs from the distribution chain in the NWT, and hold accountable those individuals who wish to harm our communities. This investigation and seizure once again resonates the need to quell the strong demand for crack cocaine in the Northwest Territories” states S/Sgt Dean Riou, NCO i/c “G” Division Federal Policing.

Noel Tesfazion (Age 30) of Yellowknife and Toronto is charged with the following offences:

Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to S. 5(2) CDSA

Possession of Proceeds of Crime contrary to S. 355(a) of the Criminal Code

Tesfazion is in custody and will be appearing in court on May 13, 2019 at 1:30 pm.
