Two deceased in single-vehicle collision; charges pending against driver

Whitehorse, Yukon – Around 6:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13th, 2019, Whitehorse RCMP, Whitehorse Fire Department and Yukon Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene of a serious single-vehicle collision on Hamilton Boulevard, about 1 km south of Bigway Foods near Falcon Drive in Whitehorse.

Upon police arrival, two passengers were located deceased at the scene, an 18-year-old woman and 18-year-old man.

One male passenger was assessed at the scene. The other male passenger was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man, was arrested and taken to the hospital to be medically assessed. He was later released into police custody where he remains. Charges related to impaired driving causing death are pending.

Around 6:45 a.m., Hamilton Boulevard was closed to traffic in both directions between Falcon Drive and the Lobird traffic circle. The road remained closed until approximately 2:00 pm, while collision analysts completed their work at the scene.

The RCMP is working closely with the Yukon Coroner’s Service on this investigation. The identities of the victims are not being released at this time.
