Alberta Checkstop leads to drugs and firearm seizure near Elk Point

Elk Point, Alberta – On Thursday, May 16th, 2019, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services was conducting an Alberta check stop on Highway 897 near Frog Lake First Nations. During the check stop a vehicle was checked and further investigation resulted in the arrest of all three occupants of the vehicle.

Police seized a loaded sawed off rifle with a round in the chamber, cocaine, oxycontin, $475.00 in Canadian currency, zip ties and other drug paraphernalia.

Dustin Gellerman (27) of Edmonton AB. who was also wanted on 6 outstanding warrant has been charged with the following offences:

• Trafficking a controlled drug substance

• Fail to comply with a JP Recognizance X 2

• Fail to comply with a firearm prohibition

• Firearms offences X 6

Jason Johnson (33) of Lloydminster AB. was charged with the following offences:

• Trafficking a control drug substance

• Fail to comply with a JP Recognizance

• Firearms offences X 6

Both Gellerman and Johnson were remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and both are scheduled to appear in Bonnyville provincial court on May 21st 2019.

Katelyn Dase (25) of Lloydminster AB. was charged with the following offences:

• Trafficking a control drug substance

• Firearms offences X 6

Dase was released on a $1,500 no cash Recognizance with several conditions. Dase is scheduled to appear in St. Paul provincial court on May 22nd 2019.

“Alberta RCMP Traffic Services goes beyond only enforcing the traffic safety act.” says Cst. Stephen Cunningham with the RCMP Traffic Services. Traffic Services will continue to ensure the public is safe on our roadways and at the same time will continue to take traveling criminals off our streets in an attempt to reduce crime in Alberta.
