Red Deer RCMP respond to threat at Eastview Middle School, UPDATE – Charges Laid

Red Deer, Alta. – Following an investigation into a threat at Eastview Middle School, RCMP have now laid charges against three youth.

On June 11, two of three suspects were apprehended by the RCMP and a third suspect was not immediately located.  On June 12 in the evening, the third youth involved cooperated with RCMP by turning himself in.

All three youths, aged 15, 16, 17, are facing charges of possession of a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon under the criminal code, as well as disturb or interrupt proceedings of a school under the School Act.  The three are scheduled to appear in youth court on June 27, 2019 in Red Deer Provincial Court.

No further information will be made available in relation to this incident.

BACKGROUND

Red Deer, Alberta – On June 11, 2019, at approximately 3:22 p.m. Red Deer RCMP responded to a call at Eastview Middle School after three male youth entered the school with a possible firearm.

Eastview Middle School, along with surrounding schools, were put into lockdown as a result.

There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

RCMP cleared the building and the suspects fled. Two of the three suspects have been apprehended and charged with firearms related offences. RCMP continue to search for the remaining suspect.

A replica firearm was later located.
