Lethbridge Police investigating sexual assault of child at Henderson Lake

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police are investigating after an eight-year-old boy disclosed that a male sexually assaulted him in a public washroom at Henderson Lake.

The matter was reported to police on June 12 – the same day the boy disclosed the details to his mother. Investigation determined the boy was attending a birthday party at Henderson Lake on the evening of June 1, 2019 when he was approached by an older, unknown male. After being offered candy, the boy accompanied the male to the washroom and was sexually assaulted. Following the incident, a witness observed the male with the boy near the water and called out to the child to come back to the party. The male appeared nervous and quickly walked north toward the parking lot.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, in his 60s, approximately 5’6” to 5’7” tall, with a slim build and clean cut white hair. He was wearing light beige, cargo-type khaki shorts that were past the knee, a white and red plaid shirt and white tennis shoes.

Anyone who was in Henderson Lake park June 1 between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and may have observed a male matching the description, is asked to contact police at 403-328-4444.

Investigation is ongoing.
