Thieves steal bike from honeymooners

Nanaimo, BC – A young couple who travelled from Belgium to experience their honeymoon in beautiful British Columbia received a rude welcoming to Nanaimo when thieves stole their E-bike while they were on an afternoon hike. (pictures attached)

At approximately 2 PM on Saturday June 8th, 2019 the couple decided to check out Collier Dam. Their motor home was parked in the upper parking lot, and after securing their bike to the bike rack at the back of the motor home, off they went. Returning around 3:30 PM, they quickly realized their E-bike, valued at almost $15,000, had been stolen from their rack and the lock securing had been cut and was found lying on the ground. They immediately reported the theft to the Nanaimo RCMP.

“We reached out to the couple for more details on the make and model, and serial number for the bike but we have not received a call back. They are most likely continuing their travels but sadly, without their very expensive bike,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

If anyone has information on the location of this bike or who is responsible for the theft, please call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at or call 1-800-222-8477.
