Westlock, Alberta – The RCMP have two adults in custody following an incident early this morning at the McDonald’s Drive Thru in Westlock.
Just after midnight, an RCMP member determined that a truck in the drive-thru was reported stolen out of Athabasca. A second RCMP member responded to assist to effect arrests of the occupants of the truck. Once the RCMP officers made contact with the driver of the truck by activating police emergency equipment, the driver responded by ramming both the police car in front of him and the police car behind him. The truck rammed the police vehicles several times until the truck came up onto the hood of one of the police vehicles.
The RCMP members were able to secure the truck, and a high risk arrest was conducted on the two occupants of the truck. No one was injured during this incident and beyond the two police vehicles, no other vehicles were involved, or damaged.
The driver, an adult male, and his passenger, an adult female were transported to a local hospital where they were assessed and released into police custody. Both adults remain in custody in Westlock. The subjects were found to have arrest warrants out of other detachment jurisdictions.
Investigation continues and the accused adults are facing several criminal code charges.
Names cannot be released by the RCMP at this time as charges have not yet been formally sworn.
