Elk Point RCMP public complaint leads to pursuit and arrest

Elk Point, Alberta – On June 16, 2019 Elk Point RCMP responded to a complaint of an erratic driver in Frog Lake.

Police responded and located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle did not stop when emergency lights were activated and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was quickly terminated due to safety concerns in the Fishing Lake Metis Settlement. The vehicle was later located abandoned and confirmed to have been stolen from Bonnyville, Alta.

Elk Point RCMP along with Cold Lake Police Dog Services were able to track and arrest the driver of the vehicle.

Matthew Lajimodiere (29), was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

• Flight from peace officer

• Dangerous operation of motor vehicle

• Operation while prohibited

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

Matthew was also wanted on three warrants out of Elk Point for 14 Criminal Code charges. He has been remanded until his court date on June 27, 2019 in St. Paul Provincial Court.

The Elk Point RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance. As the matter is now before the court, no further information will be released.
