Wetaskiwin RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision

Wetaskiwin County, Alberta – On July 5, 2019 at approximately 14:23 p.m. Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of a collision between a semi-truck and a 2007 Ford Focus at the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 814.

The vehicle was travelling eastbound on Highway 13 attempting to turn north onto Highway 814 when it collided with a semi-truck that was heading westbound on Highway 13.

The 22-year-old passenger of the vehicle was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital but was later released. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Wetaskiwin RCMP and RCMP Collision Analyst were on scene investigating the collision. Traffic in the area was rerouted for approximately two hours but the scene has since been cleared. The contributing factors to this collision remain under investigation.

The name of the deceased will not be released.
