Victim Stops to Assist People on Highway, Gets Robbed at Gunpoint; Shot Fired

Sandy Lake, Alberta – On July 7, 2019 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Desmarais RCMP responded a report of an armed robbery on Secondary Highway 813 south of Sandy Lake.

The victim pulled over in his truck to assist two males that were pushing an ATV. One of the males then produced a firearm and a shot was fired near the victim. The truck was then stolen by the suspect males and was last seen heading down Secondary Highway 813. No one was injured.

The stolen truck was located a short time later in Calling Lake where a pursuit ensued but was called off due to safety concerns. It was later found abandoned near Highway 813.

The suspect males were described as Indigenous and were wearing sweaters.

The two suspects were in the area of C road in a white truck and a dark quad from around 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm. The truck had the four way flashers on around 8:15 pm and the quad was in the truck at that time just south of “C” road. The robbery occurred North of this location and Police want to know if anyone saw anything or anyone in this area with the truck or the quad between 8:00 pm and 10:30 pm.
