Shamattawa RCMP respond to drowning

Shamattawa, Manitoba – On Wednesday July 10th, at approximately 2:00 pm, Shamattawa RCMP responded to a report of a possible drowning behind the 100 block of Riverside Road.

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive 39-year-old male from Shamattawa on the riverbank. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

The initial investigation has determined that the male went into the Gods River to swim and, while swimming back to shore, began to encounter problems and was pulled under by the current. After an extended period of time he resurfaced and was brought to shore by bystanders.

The investigation is ongoing.
