Lethbridge Police seize large quantities of meth and carfentanil

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police seized nearly $84,000 worth of methamphetamine, carfentanil and crack cocaine from a hotel room and vehicle.

On July 12, 2019 police attended the Superlodge hotel along the 2200 block of 7 Avenue South on an unrelated matter when an officer observed a suspicious vehicle he recognized from previous investigations. The owner of the vehicle was confirmed to have outstanding warrants and was subsequently arrested in his hotel room. Drugs, drug paraphernalia and a large quantity of cash were seized from the room and a search warrant was subsequently obtained and executed on the vehicle.

In total police seized 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine (street value approximately $28,600), 0.25 pounds of carfentanil (street value $51,000), 40 grams of crack cocaine (street value $4,000), $14,300 cash, ballistic body armor, drug paraphernalia, identity documents, jewelry and electronics.

Michael Newman Davies, 35, is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of identity documents and possession of body armour without a valid permit.

Davies is remanded in custody to appear in court Thursday.
