Lethbridge Police and Fire investigating two suspicious fires

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police and Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services are investigating two suspicious house fires within a two block radius late Wednesday night.

On August 21, 2019 at approximately 9:56 p.m. Police and Fire responded to a 911 call reporting a house fire along the 900 block of 9 Avenue North. Eighteen fire fighters from three stations responded and the fire was extinguished within an hour. While crews were on scene, a female approached a police officer and reported there had been multiple fires inside her home – two blocks away – that she had put out herself. Fire crews attended the woman’s home along the 700 block of 9 Avenue North and spent approximately 30 minutes extinguishing hot spots.

No one was injured in either fire and police and the Fire Prevention Bureau continue to investigate.

Damage from the fire along the 900 block of 9 Avenue North is estimated at $50,000 and damage to the residence along the 700 block of 9 Avenue North is estimated at $20,000.

There is no further information for release and there will be no media availability at this time. An update will be provided when possible.
