Dangerous driving on Highway 1 results in criminal charges: Brooks RCMP

Brooks, Alberta – Brooks RCMP stopped a 21-year-old man driving 219 kph on Highway 1 on August 31, 2019.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., a member of the Brooks RCMP detachment was conducting patrols of Highway 1 at 2nd street west in Brooks when he observed two vehicles driving westbound at high speed. One vehicle was recorded on radar at 219 kph and was stopped at the entrance to Brooks. There were two passengers in the vehicle at the time, including a youth. The investigation revealed the driver was engaged in racing the other vehicle at the time of the stop. The highway was also wet at the time due to rain. The identity of the other driver is still under investigation.

A 21 year-old Calgary man is facing one count of Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance and was released to appear in Brooks Provincial Court on October 9, 2019.
