Young offender charged with weapons offence: Lethbridge Police

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police have charged a 17-year-old boy with possession of a weapon following an incident Wednesday where a gun was reported in Galt Gardens.

On September 11, 2019 just after 2:30 p.m. police responded to a report that a male was in possession of a handgun in Galt Gardens. Multiple officers responded and located a subject matching the description. The male, who was seen going through a duffle bag, proceeded to flee on a bicycle. Police directed him to stop but he continued riding and left the park. He was later arrested a short distance away without further incident. Upon searching the area in Galt Gardens where the male had been seen, police located a BB gun wrapped in a shirt under a tree.

The investigation determined that prior to police arrival the boy had been showing the gun to another male in a non-threatening manner in an effort to sell it to him.

The youth, who cannot be identified, is charged with one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and resisting a peace officer.

He is currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
