Stolen Vehicle Recovery Leads to Additional Property Related Charges: Coaldale RCMP

Coaldale, Alberta – On September 16, 2019 at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Coaldale RCMP, who were aware of a recently reported stolen vehicle from the Grassy Lake area, conducted patrols in Coaldale. The stolen car, a white 2009 Toyota Corolla, was observed parked outside a residence along 19th avenue. The car was unoccupied so the police set up observation until a man was found entering the car. This man was approached by police and quickly arrested for possession of stolen property.

As the investigation continued evidence of other stolen items were found in the car. These stolen items include credit cards, a passport, a laptop, jewelry. All of which are linked to previous thefts from the Raymond RCMP Detachment area, the Taber RCMP Detachment area and the Picture Butte Detachment area.

Cayden McCRAY, 29, of Lethbridge, Alberta, has been charged with seventeen Criminal Code charges that include, but are not limited to:

• Possession of stolen property over $5,000,

• Possession of stolen property under $5,000

• Failing to comply with release conditions

McCRAY has since been released on a Recognizance scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on September 20, 2019.

This is an example of the transient nature of those who commit these type of property related offences. The public is reminded to report all property crimes to police so these type of incidents will lead to charges and potentially the return of their property. It is also a good practice to ensure valuables are marked for identification. Additionally valuables are removed or at least locked up and kept out of sight when left in vehicles.
