Camrose Police Service Report to October 9, 2019

Camrose, Alberta – October 9, 2019 – The 1997 GMC Sierra pick-up stolen from Camrose was recovered in Tofield.

Police became aware of a female who was involved in a romance scam. The 67 year old had met a male on-line who indicated that he was a doctor working in Afghanistan, had been taken into custody by the military and is being beaten on a daily basis. The female over the past several months estimates that she has sent the male in excess of $20,000 to help get him out of the country. The female whose bank account is now empty is asking her friends for money so that she could forward it to the “doctor”. Warnings from her family and friends that she is being scammed have been ignored. Police have strictly advised the female to cease all contact with the scammer.

At 2:45 AM Police observed a suspicious pick-up truck with a large quantity of property in the box. Checks on the license plate indicated that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Red Deer on October 4th. Police activated their emergency lighting to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Further checks indicated that the same vehicle was involved in two other criminal flights from Police.
