Brooks RCMP phone line being spoofed

Brooks, Alberta – Brooks RCMP are aware that citizens in the Brooks area are receiving fraudulent calls which include a ‘spoofed’ number associated to the Brooks RCMP. Residents are warned to be aware of this spoofing and to not provide any personal information or pay any money.

Over the last few days, and increasingly today, Brooks RCMP were notified of culprits contacting victims alleging that they were from the RCMP and that the victim’s Social Insurance Number had been compromised. Personal information was requested.

– The RCMP will never ask you for money over the phone

– The RCMP will not tell you to pay for anything using Bitcoin, other crypto currency, iTunes cards or other gift cards

– The RCMP will never tell you to pay money or threaten to arrest you for tax fraud
