RCMP seize firearm following a vehicle stop in Amherst, Nova Scotia

Amherst, Nova Scotia – Amherst RCMP seize firearm and arrested a man and a woman following a vehicle stop in Amherst on October 17.

Shortly after 10 p.m., an Amherst RCMP member was driving through a parking lot on Hwy. 6 and noticed a suspicious vehicle. A man was seen near the vehicle trying to stay out of site of the member. The vehicle did not match the description provided from the licence plate query. As the vehicle was leaving the parking lot, a traffic stop was initiated.

The driver of the vehicle did not have a valid driver’s licence. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of a loaded handgun and the arrest, without incident, of the male driver and female passenger.

Steven Wallace Frizzell, 46, of Summerside PEI, is charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Firearm with the Serial Number Removed, Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition and Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited.

Trudy Lynn McKibbon, 32, of Kensington, PEI, is charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Identity Fraud, Possession of a Firearm with the Serial Number Removed, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition.

Both appeared in Amherst Provincial Court yesterday and have been released on conditions. They are both scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on November 18, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
