Ponoka RCMP investigate complaint of forcible confinement, Medicine Hat male charged

Ponoka, Alberta – On Oct. 30, 2019, Blackfalds RCMP began investigating a report of a female being held against her will in a stolen truck by a male armed with a knife. The vehicle was reported to be heading to the Ponoka area and the Ponoka RCMP were called to assist.

Ponoka RCMP located the stolen truck at a gas station and arrested the male who was in possession of a knife. The female was located hiding behind the cashier counter.

Further investigation revealed that the female and male were known to each other and had been travelling together to the Central Alberta area. It was determined that the female had not been held against her will and truck had been stolen from Medicine Hat the previous day.

The male was on a Recognizance for another offence and supposed to be on a 24-hour curfew.

The female was released without any charges.

Tyler John Figley (35) of Medicine Hat, Alta. has been charged with:

• Failing to Comply with Recognizance (x4)

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

• Possession of break-in instruments

• Possession of stolen property over $5000

Tyler was remanded into custody and scheduled to appear on Nov. 5, 2019 in Ponoka Provincial Court.

The Ponoka RCMP continues to investigate this matter.
