Update: Remaining bodies located after plane crash in Little Grand Rapids

Little Grand Rapids, Manitoba – On November 5, 2019, the two remaining bodies, the 42-year-old male passenger from Winnipeg and the 39-year-old male pilot from Bissett, were located in Family Lake. The body of the 39-year-old was removed from the water last night and efforts are currently underway today to recover the body of the 42-year-old.

The investigation has now been turned over to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

BACKGROUND

On October 27, 2019, divers with the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team recovered the body of a 49-year-old male from Family Lake. He has been identified as one of two passengers in the nine-seat Otter float plane at the time of the crash. The 39-year-old male pilot and a 42-year-old male passenger remain unaccounted for.

The Underwater Recovery Team is conducting additional dives today.

Little Grand Rapids RCMP, in partnership with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, continue to investigate.

Plane debris has been located in Family Lake, near Little Grand Rapids, Manitoba. Three people have now been confirmed to be on board at time of crash. Search on shore and on the water is ongoing. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team will be diving tomorrow.

BACKGROUND

On October 26, 2019, at approximately at 08:36 am, Little Grand Rapids RCMP received a report of a plane crash, approximately 280 km northeast of Winnipeg.

Witnesses say the plane clipped a tree before going into the water, with possibly three on board.

RCMP Search & Rescue, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and a search and rescue plane from RCAF 435 Squadron in Winnipeg, are all en route.
