Camrose, Alberta – November 7, 2019 – At about 1:00 in the afternoon members of the Camrose Police Service observed a young male driving a 2009 Audi A3 dropping off a male passenger at the courthouse. Checks on the license plate determined that the vehicle had been stolen out of Edmonton on November 5th, 2019. The male passenger was subsequently arrested at the courthouse for possession of stolen property and during a search he was found to be in possession of two separate quantities of methamphetamine.
While dealing with the passenger, other Police members were following the movements of the stolen vehicle and when the opportunity presented itself, a spike belt was deployed which deflated two of the stolen vehicle’s tires. The driver then began to drive erratically, striking a stop sign before fleeing at a high rate of speed into rural Camrose where he abandoned the vehicle near highway 13 and RR 204. A short time after locating the vehicle Police were contacted by a citizen who had picked up a young male near the area. The citizen stated that he had given the youth a ride back into Camrose where he jumped out of the moving vehicle near Grand Drive. Police conducted a search of the area and the same youth was located and arrested.
The 30 year old male passenger was charged with eight offences including possession of stolen property, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and five counts of breaching various court conditions. The youth operating the vehicle was charged with eleven offences including possession of stolen property, flight from Police, dangerous driving, obstruction, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, operating a motor vehicle without a license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and four counts of breaching his conditions. Both individuals are in custody waiting on bail hearings.
Curb the Danger. Police received a call of a possible impaired driver. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver displayed signs of alcohol consumption and provided a caution reading on a roadside screening device. An immediate roadside suspension was issued resulting in the male’s license being suspended for 3 days along with a 3 day vehicle seizure.
While conducting regular patrols a black GMC pick-up immediately sped away when it observed Police. The vehicle was then located at the east end of Camrose and when a traffic stop was conducted the male driver jumped into the backseat with two of the three other passengers. The male showed signs of intoxication and was arrested for impaired driving. Once at Police headquarters he provided two samples of his breath that exceeded the legal limit. The male was subsequently charged with impaired driving.
