Grande Prairie RCMP advise traffic delays – Hwy 43 at Smoky Hill – UPDATED

Grande Prairie, Alta. – Grande Prairie RCMP advise that Highway 43, at the Smoky Hill, is now open to traffic in all directions.

All roadways, in and around Grande Prairie, continue to be very icy. Motorists are asked to reduce their speed and allow extra time for travel today.


Grande Prairie, Alberta – (7:57 AM) Grande Prairie RCMP are advising motorists of significant traffic delays on Highway 43, near the Smoky Hill.

RCMP warn that both the east and westbound lanes of Highway 43 are currently backed up. Numerous tractor trailer units have been unable to make it up the Smoky Hill due to icy roads.

No injuries have been reported. Highway maintenance crews and tow truck operators are working in the area to assist in clearing the roadway. Motorists are asked to avoid travel in this area.

The roadways in and around Grande Prairie are currently very icy. RCMP are asking motorists to slow down, and avoid travel unless necessary.
