Sicamous, BC – Sicamous RCMP is asking the person or persons responsible for the theft of a distinctive wooden jewelry box, taken from within a storage locker on Hillier Road in Sicamous, to return the item to police with no further questions asked.
The hand-made wooden jewelry box contained the cremated ashes of the owner’s father. The box, which is seen in the accompanied photograph is described as approximately 12 x 20 x 6 inches in size.
“I believe that the person who stole this jewelry box, which was a wedding gift to our victim, may have had no idea that it contained the ashes of her late father. It is extremely important to this woman, that her father’s ashes and the jewelry box be returned,” states Sgt. Murray McNeil, Sicamous RCMP Detachment Commander. T”he wooden box can be returned to the front counter of the Sicamous RCMP Detachment with no questions asked to the person who returns it and we will make arrangements to return it to its rightful owner.”
The theft from the Hillier Road storage locker was reported to Sicamous RCMP on November 12. Investigators believe the theft occurred sometime between November 9 and November 12. Three other storage units were broken into at the same facility with many valuable larger items such as gasoline generators, leather furniture, and fishing gear not touched.
