Forty-seven-year-old Green Island Brook man sentenced for arson

Flower’s Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador – On November 28, 2019, 47-year-old Jason Hughes attended Port Au Choix Provincial Court where he was sentenced to nine months in jail and 18 months of probation for arson.

On February 2, 2018, Flower’s Cove RCMP responded to a complaint in the Green Island Brook area where a man was making threats to employees of a local tow company who were at his property to repossess a vehicle. Shortly after, police received another call indicating the vehicle was on fire. The Straits Volunteer Regional Fire Department attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

Further investigation by police determined the fire was deliberately set by Hughes, at which time he was arrested and charged with arson.
