Nanton RCMP investigate a suspicious male that leads to seizure of 250 Cannabis plants

Nanton, Alberta – On Nov. 13 2019, at 11:00 a.m., Nanton RCMP responded to a call of a suspicious male at a rural residence near Highway 2 and Township Road 170. The male had indicated he had been involved in a motor vehicle collision and was in need of a ride.

Nanton and High River RCMP attended and located the unoccupied damaged vehicle in the driveway of a nearby rural property with the door ajar. While searching for the occupant of the vehicle, a subject matching the description of the suspicious male exited a building, leaving the door ajar. RCMP members observed a large quantity of Cannabis plants inside the building.

The 27-year-old male from Edmonton was arrested for leaving the scene of a collision. The male was charged with the following Criminal Code (CC), Traffic Safety Act (TSA) and the Trespass to Premises Act (TTP) offences:

• Failure to comply with Recognizance (CC)

• Drive while unauthorized (TSA)

• Drive uninsured motor vehicle (TSA)

• Operate unregistered motor vehicle (TSA)

• Trespass on premises (TTP)

The name of the male is not being released at this time as the information has not been sworn.

Nanton RCMP immediately conducted an investigation into the Cannabis grow operation. Nanton RCMP executed a search warrant on the property at approximately 11:00 p.m. and seized 250 Cannabis plants in a mature state of growth.

Leslie Nicole Gurr (51) and Randle Mackenzie Loree (36), both of Nanton, are charged with the following offences under the Cannabis Act:

• Unauthorized production of cannabis

• Possession for use in production or distribution of illicit cannabis

• Cultivation, propagation and harvesting exceeding dwelling house limit

• Cultivation, propagation and harvesting without authorization

Gurr and Loree are scheduled to appear in Fort Macleod Provincial Court on Jan. 8, 2020.
