Grande Prairie Crime Reduction Unit lays weapons charges

Grande Prairie, Alberta – The Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) has charged one male with numerous offences following a traffic stop.

On Dec. 10, 2019, members of the RCMP CRU team were making patrols in the area of Clairmont when they observed a suspicious vehicle. Police conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle and determined the licence plate on it had been stolen. While being detained and questioned by police, the lone male occupant attempted fleeing and resisted arrest. The male was arrested and secured in custody.

A search of the vehicle led police to locate and seize the following:

• a revolver

• a knife

• bear spray

• a concealed gun holster

Jeante Maddox (36) of Grande Prairie has been charged with the following:

• Possession of a weapon contrary to an order x3

• Careless use of a firearm

• Possession of a dangerous weapon x2

• Carrying a concealed weapon

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm

• Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized

• Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle

• Possession of a weapon obtained by commission of an offence

• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

• Resist Arrest x2

MADDOX has been remanded in custody following a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) Hearing, and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 18, 2019.
