RCMP engage search and rescue to aid in search for missing skier outside of Rossland, B.C.

Trail, BC – Trail and Greater District RCMP has activated search and rescue crews to provide support in the ongoing search for a missing Rossland resident on Red Mountain Ski Resort.

On December 30, 2019 at approximately 5 p.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP received a report of an overdue skier. Mark Gayowski, a Rossland area resident, had been missing for several hours after failing to return from a run on the backside of Red Mountain. An initial search was conducted in the area, however that search was limited in the dark, due to dangerous terrain and heavy snow fall conditions.

Mark Anthony Gayowski is described as a Caucasian male, 34-years of age, who stands about 6 feet tall and weighs approx. 209 pounds. He was last seen wearing a light blue ski jacket, a pair of black ski pants, a brown toque and ski goggles.

The ground search has resumed early this morning, with snowmobiles and ski teams. Current weather conditions continue to hamper search efforts.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mark Gayowski is urged to contact the Trail and Greater District RCMP.
