Lytton, BC – The RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident where a man has died as a result of a police-involved shooting.
Just before 8 a.m. on January 13, Lytton RCMP Frontline officers were called to a residence in the 1000-block of Macintyre Road in Lytton, for a report of a man in distress. The man was reported to be in possession of firearms, two other persons were inside the residence with him. Shortly after officers arrived, there was a report of gunfire, originating from the residence. No one was injured. The Emergency Response Team, including a Crisis Negotiator were called to assist.
The two other individuals who were inside of the residence at the time were safely evacuated, while the distraught man remained inside and negotiations continued. Shortly after 2:00 p.m. an interaction between the man and police resulted in shots being fired by police. The man was shot and has died, no one else was injured.
The IIO BC is now investigating police actions as it relates to the man’s death. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
