St. Paul RCMP traffic stop results in seizure of drugs and guns

St. Paul, Alberta – Shortly after midnight on Jan. 27, 2020, St. Paul RCMP were conducting patrols along 50th Ave., in St. Paul. A vehicle stop was conducted and the male driver was arrested for impaired driving.

Further investigation led to police seizing of what is believed to be methamphetamine (17g), psilocybin mushrooms (2g), several tablets containing codeine and a loaded sawed off shotgun. A female passenger was also arrested on scene without incident.

Jesse Cardinal (37) of St. Paul was charged with 23 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:

• Operation while impaired

• Operation while blood alcohol over .80mg

• Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order

• Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking

• Possession of a controlled substance (x3)

• Possession of a weapon dangerous to the pubic

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm

• Unsafe storage of a firearm

Jennifer Gochko (43) of Elk Point was charged with 10 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:

• Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking

• Possession of a controlled substance (x2)

• Possession of a weapon dangerous to the pubic

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm

• Unsafe storage of a firearm

Both accused were remanded into custody following a judicial hearing and will be appearing next on Jan. 30, 2020 in St. Paul Provincial Court.

“Removing drugs and illegal firearms from the street is one of our top priorities as it helps keep our communities safe,” says Sergeant David Graham with the St. Paul RCMP. “With this traffic stop we not only seized items we removed an impaired driver off the roads.”
